Emergency Leak Repair: Evans Plumbing & Sewer Inc. to the Rescue!

On 11/13/2024, we received an urgent call from a customer experiencing a water leak late at night in her laundry room and garage. Initially, the customer thought it might be a drain issue due to using her washing machine, so she added a drain cleaner to try and clear a possible clog. However, with a noticeable drain cleaner smell only in the laundry room (and not in the garage), it was unclear whether the leak was on the drain side or the pressurized water side.

Our Inspection Process:

• After assessing both areas, we noticed significant water but couldn’t immediately identify the source.

• We presented an estimate to open up the laundry room sheetrock for further inspection, which the customer approved.

• After moving the washer and cutting the sheetrock, we discovered a pressurized hot water line leak but couldn’t access the damaged pipe from that side.

Locating and Fixing the Leak from the Garage Side:

• With customer approval, we cleared and removed shelving from the garage to access the wall.

• Carefully cutting through sheetrock and the sheer wall, we uncovered the source—a copper pipe damaged by a copper j hook.

• After shutting off and draining the water system, we cut and replaced a section of the 3/4" copper piping, securely soldering in a new piece.

Wrapping Up:

• We purged all water lines, reconnected the washer, cleaned up both areas, and restored shelving temporarily so sheetrock repairs could be done without hassle.

• After thorough testing, the system was confirmed leak-free!
